File Submission
Image Quality
- Image files must be at least 300 ppi at 100% (the full size at which they are to print)
Images used online are generally only 72 ppi thus unacceptable for use in print unless used at a significantly smaller size.
Acceptable File Formats
- Adobe Acrobat PREFERRED FORMAT | all versions (.pdf)
- Adobe Illustrator | versions 8.0 to CC (.ai .eps .pdf)
Files submitted as .ai or .eps files must have the type outlined or rasterized. Contact our office if you need assistance.
- Adobe InDesign | versions 2.0 to CC (.indd .idml)
- .indd files MUST be from version CS6 or earlier or submitted as a .idml
To save the file as a .idml select “Save As” from the “File” menu, then select “InDesign CS4 or later” from the “Format” drop-down menu.
- .indd and .idml files must accompanied by all fonts and linked files and zipped or compressed to prevent the files from becoming damaged or corrupted

- Microsoft Word FOR TEXT ONLY | all versions</> (.doc .docx .txt)
Microsoft Word is not capable of generating files of high enough resolution for high-quality printing. Text to be used to create an ad can be submitted in this format as well as design mock-ups. If you are sending an ad mock-up, please remember to include all fonts and images as the Word file will be used only as a design sample and must be recreated.
- NotePad & TextEdit FOR TEXT ONLY | all versions (.txt)
NotePad and TextEdit are not capable of generating files of high enough resolution for high-quality printing. Text to be used to create an ad can be submitted in this format.
Unacceptable File Formats
We DO NOT accept files from the programs listed below. Most of these programs are not capable of generating files of high enough resolution for high-quality printing and, in most cases, we do not have the necessary software in our office to open these files. You may use any program to create a design mock-up but must only submit an image file. Most of the programs below have the capability to save or export a file as an image file (.jpg .png etc.). If you have created a design mock-up, please remember to include all fonts and images as the image file will be used only as a design sample and must be recreated. Contact our office if you need additional assistance.
- Corel | capable of creating a high-resolution press ready file, please outline the type and only submit as a press-quality .pdf
- Microsoft Excel | can be used to submit content text, but Word would be a better choice
- Microsoft PowerPoint | use for creating design mock-ups only but must submit image file

Sending Files
Submit files (created on either MAC or PC platform) via one of the following methods:
- Email: send to design@novoprint.com
Please be sure to include your company name and your order number in the subject line.
- Online via our file uploader
Name your file using the format: companyname-contactname-ordernumber (e.g. smithplumbing-mikesmith-12345).
- CD or DVD sent via USPS or delivery service (FedEx, UPS, etc.)Please include the Project, Advertiser Name and your
Contract Number in the subject line of the email.
